Control panel retrofits for equipment you already own
WESA rebuilds panels that run discontinued parts, using current PLCs, drives and devices that are still in production. The new panel fits the original footprint and mounting.
Rebuilding an existing panel
The mechanical side of a machine usually outlasts its controls. Equipment can run well past the point where its PLC goes obsolete, spares get scarce and the last complete set of drawings disappears.
WESA reverse-engineers the existing panel when the prints are gone, tracing wiring and I/O back to what is in the enclosure. The rebuild uses current PLCs, drives and devices your distributor still stocks. Sizing the new panel to the original footprint and mounting keeps installation simple. Accurate wiring diagrams and a bill of materials ship with the completed panel.
What a retrofit covers
What we do on a typical retrofit, from documenting the old panel to labeling the new one.
- Assess what's there
- We start by documenting the controls, wiring and I/O in the panel, whether or not the original prints still exist.
- Replace obsolete parts
- Discontinued PLCs, drives and devices come out. Replacements are current parts your team can source.
- Fit the existing footprint
- The new panel matches the original mounting holes and conduit entries, so it goes back where the old one came out.
- Fresh documentation
- You get wiring diagrams and a bill of materials for the panel as built, with part numbers your team can reorder.
- Built and labeled to UL
- Retrofit panels are built to UL 508A or UL 698A, with the listing label applied in our shop when the application requires one.
- Planned around downtime
- We build the panel ahead of the changeover date. The swap then fits a scheduled maintenance window.
